This is a simple fix to repair a licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2013 that keeps appearing as an unlicensed copy. This generally occurs with subscription licensing through Office 365.
4 Steps total
Step 1: Make sure all Office programs are closed.
This will ensure the script runs properly.
Step 2: Open the Command Prompt as Administrator
Click Start and in the search field type 'Command' and right click the Command Prompt to Run as Administrator.
Step 3: Navigate to the Office Installation folder %ProgramFiles%Microsoft OfficeOffice15
Depending on whether the install is 32bit or 64bit will determine its location.
Step 4: Run 'cscript ospp.vbs /act'.
The output should end with 'Product Activation Successful'.
The ospp.vbs script has many other switches to check the status of the Office install. Please refer to the reference script for more information.

- Ghost ChiliRAM. Aug 5, 2013 at 06:27pmNo problem. You have fixed it, you earn my spice :-).
- Ghost ChiliNick42 Aug 6, 2013 at 11:12pmHad it happen a few times under VL installs too, mostly mobile users.

- SonoraJames Montz Oct 30, 2013 at 09:04pmNicely done. Simply written, straight forward, and most importantly, works!
- SonoraDanielsbell Mar 14, 2014 at 04:10pmThis works but for some reason after 30 days it goes unlicensed again. Any thoughts?
- Pimientojamesmaxson May 2, 2014 at 07:47pmI ran into this problem recently (namely, it kept doing it after 30 days passed), and while the manual reactivation worked, it wouldn't stick. Worked with MS support on this, and got the following:1.Change the following services from manual to automatic.
-1.Office Source Engine
-2.Office Software Protection Platform
-3.Microsoft Office Services
-4.Windows installer
-5.Task scheduler
2. Check for windows updates.
3. Ran an office apps as administrator.
Reboot the computer at this step, and take a look at office. At this point, the Unlicensed product should go away. - Pimientosulssyed May 9, 2014 at 11:34amJamesmaxson i havent tried that however i too was having the issue of it unlicensing after 30 days.I have found an Official Microsoft Post with different instructions to the one posted above: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2899838#FixItForMeAlthough Fix it automatically doesnt work - if you do it manually - this is a longterm fixAs administrator:cscript.exe '%ProgramFiles%Microsoft OfficeOffice15ospp.vbs' /dstatus
At the same command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter. - Grab key from previous command (last 5 numbers)
cscript.exe '%ProgramFiles%Microsoft OfficeOffice15ospp.vbs' /unpkey:xxxxx
If the command executed correctly, the following status will be displayed:Product key uninstall successfulfulOpen any Office 365 ProPlus or Office 365 Small Business Premium application. The Activate Office dialog box should be displayed.Sign in to Office 365 by using the credentials for the user who is verified in method 1, above. - Thai PepperNic (Webroot) Mar 24, 2015 at 07:29pmWoot - this worked for me after my Office become unactivated after I secretly put my own SSD in my work laptop. Don't tell the Webroot IT guys :)

- Serranodigitaltorres Nov 11, 2015 at 07:55pmSo far I haven't had this turn up in Office 2016.
- Serranojulianddavidson Jan 25, 2016 at 10:08pmI'm getting it in Office 2016 for our Office 365 subscription users. A few now - the pilot users, so predicting a flood in a few weeks. It's the 'run as administrator' thing I don't like. I need an enterprise solution - I shouldn't have to ask users to do stupid stuff like this. They don't have admin rights, so this doesn't actually help without me visiting them one-by-one. The non-admin user being unable to activate office is a very old problem that is, somewhat inexcusably, still occurring.
- JalapenoDave1171 May 26, 2016 at 02:21pmThank you for this tip. Worked like a charm for me!
- Anaheimstephensmith22 Dec 28, 2016 at 02:43pm@julianddavidson, perhaps you should have a script run at a policy level, so this will automatically be done when the user logs on.
